We’re getting ready to release the new vintage Gruner Veltliner wines at Hahndorf Hill, so to sharpen our palates\u00c2\u00a0we put together a tasting of 12 excellent examples of Gruner Veltliner wines from Austria (Wachau, Kamptal and Kremstal), from Australia (Adelaide Hills) and from New Zealand (Marlborough).<\/p>\n

The 16th August produced a beautiful evening with the chilly winter air kept at bay by the wood fire and the warm company that included all the Hahndorf Hill team members and the wine making team from Lodestone Winery, under the helm of Michael Sykes.<\/p>\n

Wines tasted at Gruner Veltliner tasting Hahndorf Hill August 2014<\/p><\/div>\n

It was great to see all the New World examples comfortably rubbing shoulders with the Austrian versions and particularly exciting to see how well the aged versions had developed. This age-ability of Gruner is something that the wine authorities in Austria take great pains in marketing to the world and I can fully appreciate why!<\/p>\n

Can’t wait to have an ‘aged’ Hahndorf Hill Gruner – and given that 2015 will be our \u00c2\u00a0sixth vintage of this exciting variety, we should be rewarded soon!<\/p>\n
